Founded by Elspeth Briscoe, who brings her experience from eBay, Skype and The Guardian, we currently run courses for gardening, antiques and photography, with students from over 50 countries. We unite world-leading experts with passionate enthusiasts and professionals to provide collaborative online learning that is loved and trusted.
Paula Pryke MBE, author of 17 best-selling books, Piet Oudolf, Landscape Designer for The Highline (New York), The Olympic Park, Michael Freeman, author of over 40 best-selling photography books and Joanna Hardy, Christie’s Jewellery Expert, are amongst our roster of more than 50 expert tutors. Our students collaborate and study in our own online classroom where they interact with their fellow classmates and expert tutors.
What we're looking for
We need a developer who is passionate about building beautiful and usable user interfaces. Our software platform is all homegrown and includes a blog, content management system, video delivery platform, community and realtime chat based classroom.
Our technology stack includes a Ruby on Rails and Postgres based API, Server side rendered React and Redux front end, Go services and is build upon a number of AWS services. We make heavy use of automation to avoid repetitive manual tasks.
You must be excited about building beautiful, intuitive user interfaces for a fast growing worldwide audience.
Every day, you'll be busy designing and building a new features for our students and tutors with a large amount of autonomy. You'll work closely with the CTO to help define standards and build out the product roadmap. You'll love to deliver code which is well tested and of a consistently high standard. You'll already have experience building beautiful user interfaces using the latest web technologies whilst ensuring that product innovations are led by customer feedback and measured with solid behavioural analytics.
- Experience in building complex web applications
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
- Standards compliant HTML, CSS (with precompiler like SASS or LESS)
- Responsive design layout
- Experience of creating beautiful and intuitive UI in a web application
- Experience with cross browser/platform compliant UI, testing etc
- Unit testing
We'd love it if you have experience (or at least an excitement to learn about) the following:
- Ruby on Rails (particularly with REST APIs)
- Native iOS or Android development would be advantageous
- Postgres databases
- Amazon Web Services and related automation technologies
